Prefeasibility, feasibility study, tender project and specifications for a safe management
of the floods
Purpose

The contract with “Fichtner Germany” was signed on 26 November 2014, and is being implemented. The contract includes three phases: Prefeasibility study, feasibility study, and the preparation of tender documents and technical specifications for the option selected.
On conclusion of the project we will have a feasibility study that will serve as a basis for financing investments aimed to increase discharge capacities in the Drin Cascade, thus leading to an increased safety of dams in this cascade. Moreover, an output of this package will also be the preparation of tender documents as well as technical specifications for additional discharge capacities.

By repairing and returning this transformer into standby mode, the availability and readiness of the aggregates at Koman HPP was reset, thus normalizing the situation

Main Activities

The current state of its implementation includes:
• Collection of data from previous hydrological, geological, seismic and topographic studies, review and update for
the phase of prefeasibility study and the examination of different versions of solutions and their technical and
economic analysis.
• Conclusion of topographic and bathymetric works of the dams reservoirs of the Drin cascade.
• Data processing and preparation of surface and volumes curves of Fierza, Koman and Vau Dejës dams.
• Collection of information on Drin Cascade spillways and introduction to their technical conditions
• Hydrological modelling and operation of reservoirs.
• Preparation and approval of the report on prefeasibility study.

Results and Expectations

The realisation of the project on the safe management of floods on Drin Cascade HPPs includes:
• The prefeasibility study which will determine the alternative solutions for the management of floods on the Drin
Cascade and selection of an optimum alternative based on technical and economic analysis (ends in December 2015)
• The preparation of the feasibility study for the selected alternative, including the engineering project for this phase
(ends in October 2016)
• The preparation of the engineering project, tender documents and technical specifications for the selected
alternative (ends in January 2017)
• The safe management of floods on the Drin Cascade shall have an impact in increasing the dams safety and its
objective is to carry out studies and analysis in determining
