Due to the location, their size, volume of the lakes and the main role they play in the power production and control of Drin basin inflows, the 3 HPPs of the Drin Cascade which are managed by KESH are classified as 1st Class plants, based on the risk level and the economic and social impact that their damage brings about.

Thus, guaranteeing safety of dams, lakes and hydropower plants, extending their service life and the safe and reliable operation of the cascade scheme are some of the major responsibilities of the Albanian Power Corporation.

In order to guarantee the hydropower plants safety and extend their service life, it is necessary to make continuous investment at the dams, river banks as well as the surrounding terrain of the hydropower plants, with a view to preserving and improving their functional and safety parameters.

In this regard, KESH has undertaken and is implementing, with its own funds and funds borrowed by financial institutions a number of development projects for the realisation of the works and studies which aim to improve safety conditions and functioning of the plants.

KESH hydrotechnical experts are in charge of planning, coordinating and implementing periodic works for the maintenance of plants.
