Milestones in the Company’s Transformation
Establishment of the General Directorate of Power Plants (DPCE) as a State-Owned Enterprise.
Transformation of DPCE from a State-Owned Enterprise into a Commercial Company, the Albanian Electric Power Corporation (KESH).
KESH sh.a. gains the status of a Joint-Stock Company with 100% of shares owned by the Albanian State.
Adoption of the current status of KESH sh.a., in line with EU legislation on the privatization of non-natural monopolies, which mandated the separation of core functions. This led to the removal of Transmission and Distribution operations, leaving the company focused solely on Energy Production.
Transmission functions are removed from KESH sh.a., and the Transmission System Operator is established.
Distribution and Retail Supply functions are separated, leading to the creation of the Distribution System Operator (OSSH).
KESH sh.a. operates in Energy Production, Public Wholesale Supply, and Energy Trading. The company remains 100% state-owned.
Public Wholesale Supply functions are transferred to OSHEE, allowing KESH to focus on energy production, trading, and maintenance and development of generation resources.
Establishment of the SENA company, wholly owned by KESH sh.a., under a financing agreement for the construction of the Floating Photovoltaic Plant in Vau i Dejës.
The public production company, assigned public service obligations, supplies the Universal Service Supplier with all necessary electricity at a unit price approved by the General Assembly of the company.
KESH diversifies its energy production through the operation of the photovoltaic plant on the Qyrsaq dam.
KESH joins the Albanian Energy Exchange (Alpex) as of April 1, 2023.

Vau i Dejës HPP is a dam-and-lake type plant, with the Vau i Dejës Lake created through the construction of four distinct dams:
1. Qyrsaq Dam
2. Zadeja Dam
3. Rragam Dam
4. Gjoç Dam
Vau i Dejës is classified as a first-class project, emphasizing its critical role in energy production and regulation within the cascade.
